School reopens for China studentsOh well, just when they thought they wanted to enjoy more of their holidays, school reopens. Haha. Well, I guess most of them will have mixed feelings: Happy that they will be able to acquire more knowledge and be reunited with friends but Sad because of busy schedule and I guess they will miss home once again since most of them stay in hostels. (China is big as compared to Singapore. =P)
I listened to the news broadcast in Channel 8 and saw a report on China students having exchange in Clementi Secondary School. Few Singaporeans were interviewed and were asked to comment on the China students... Few Singaporeans commented that China students were more interactive during classes, asked more questions and were more interested to know about the topics discussed.
This set me to think.... The NUS situation....
What do you guys do during breaks???? Well, as for me, normally I will turn to my sides or behind to talk to people around me or go outside and take a quick bite/ take a deep breath.... But if you notice properly, you will actually see people coming down to the professor and always so enthusiastic to know more! Haha... I guess I have to be more enthusiastic in my work, else I may lose out to them =)
(Although it doesnt mean that I have been slacking too *wink*)
Events coming up:
1) NUS-Lecture booth manning
2) Tuition
3) Dota training
4) NUS-Lecture planning
5) Microbiology lab
6) Term paper read-up
And of course keeping in touch =) It feels so good to be healthy! Haha 8月24日 Sick huh?T_T I really never thought I will fall sick.
I looked so normal the previous day and now.... This fever and headache is affecting me quite a lot >< Still, I managed to look happy in the lecture classes with the hope that forgetting about my sickness will cure it. Guess it never help. Haha.
Some hypothesis why I am sick. It could be that I was overworked or it could be because of the hot weather ><
What I can do now is to give myself plenty of rest and drink sufficient water.
And special thanks to those who care about me so much during this period. =)
I will smile more when I recover. K K? =P 8月20日 How am I???Somehow, I am very motivated by school... Because I realised that all my modules are so interesting!! Especially for the module of immunology. Guess choosing biomedical sciences as my concentration is not a wrong choice after all =P Let's hope that this type of motivation carries on for the rest of the semester.
As for tuition, I think I am starting to feel a bit stressed since I do feel very responsible for getting my students score well for their examinations. I realise that setting questions for my students to do is not as simple as i thought, and this goes to show the responsibilities carried by our teachers are beyond one can imagine. As for my career options, perhaps I may be a science lecturer or a professor, if I realise afterwards that research is not my forte after all =)
For extra-curricular activities, the main event that I will be engaging on will be NUS Lecture, with Gary as the project director. I will definitely help him as much as I can since he has been so supportive during the China exchange program =) And congrats! He was elected as the president of Political Association. Boy... You really deserve it! As for me, let me consider the role of being a logistics and asset management in-charge =P If I really do want to take up that post, we can work on Political Association together =)
For friend activities, I only joined the one which Ariane organised on the Monday. Thanks for the effort put in. Appreciated. Guess when the semester starts, such activities will definitely be lesser too. So, let's work hard and make this semester a good one ok? =) Chatting wise, the amount of time spent on chatting has been reducing recently, but let's still keep in contact ok? =)
Special thanks to special people in my life who cares about me =) And to all, Kambateh! Perception of an apple under the sun在巴士上想着:“ 如果放一粒红苹果在太阳底下然后叫你 comment, 你会如何说呢?”
Physicist:
The reason why you can see this red apple is because the apple absorbs white light and reflects red light
Chemist:
I think in 10 minutes, the apple will decompose since rate of decomposition is proportional to temperature
Biologist:
The apple will become an ecosystem for the decomposers.
Doctor:
An apple a day keeps a doctor away
Child:
Why you put the apple there? Just eat it la!
Artist:
Wait! Let me draw a picture of it!
Philiosophy student:
Why is it there? Any logic behind? Where did it originated from?
Economist:
What is the opportunity cost for putting the apple there?
Language student:
An apple is under the sun
Businessman:
How much is that apple worth?
Entrepreneur:
I think if you cut the apple in such a way that people can eat it in one bite, people will buy it!
Engineer:
Let me measure the dimensions. It should be able to fit into this container...
Astronomy student:
The earth is rotating about its own axis, so the apple is spinning actually although it looks stationary!
Social worker:
Maybe can donate this apple to the old folks home or childcare centre...
Psychologist:
To me, the apple looks red. But are you seeing the exact same colour as I do?
Poet:
The apple is crying under the sun. Let's get the apple out to a more shady area
Gangster:
Bo liao~ (无聊)
IT expert:
Let me think of an algorithm to store this image in my computer
Lawyer:
You are convicted of littering~
Haha... Just writing this for fun. It's really fun to think how different people perceive a red apple under the sun =)
BBQ outing @ East CoastWhat can I say... In summary, the BBQ was a success! =P Thanks everyone for making this trip a memorable one.
Morning was a tuition with my student, Eunice. Had quite a long talk that day with her parent and family about how to improve my student's grade. Had free lunch at her house and enjoyed myself down there with her whole family.... Till.... Gary said:" Meet at 4pm Kovan."
I woke up my idea immediately and bidded them farewell. I didn't want to be late and spoil the whole BBQ session. LOL.
When I reached my area, I quickly did a last minute shopping to NTUC Fairprice to buy sausages and crab sticks. Then, Jin Tao requested me to fetch him from school -.-" I panicked, because that would have meant that I will be late for the meeting with Gary.
I didn't think much, but returned home and prepared the sausages and crab meat. I needed to defrost and cut them to facilitate the whole process of the BBQ session. Soon after, I called Jin Tao again. This time he said that Siok Leng will be bringing him over. Thanks so much Siok Leng!!!
I rushed to take a bus and took an mrt ride to Kovan. And hey, I was early for the meeting! Haha. After a short wait, I saw Gary and we went to do more shopping... For food and drinks+++ We also went to the satay store at DEFU lane and I had a great time chatting with the boss. She even gave me an otah to eat eventually! Haha... Didn't know I was so charming =P
Met up with Qiujie (Sorry for my long talk with the boss ><) and I had a hard time contacting Cheow Hui! Somehow... when I used Gary's phone to call her, she picked up. -.-" BIAS! Haha. In the end when I asked her why, she said she was busy when I called. (Forgiven =P) Another problem faced was the parking at East Coast... I didn't know it would be such a chore to park a car at 6pm in East Coast... Somehow, Gary was very lucky to find a parking slot after cicling around 4 times.
The BBQ pit was really nice. Near the sea, near toilet, near carpark... You really cant ask for more! Cheow Hui, Mack, Eng Khoon and the 3 of us were there to prepare the stuff. A while later, Prof Kau came to join us. He looked much younger in that shirt... Haha. Thank Jolia also for presenting the Otah to us though she cant come for the session itself. Kelvin was there, talking about his honours job and all of us were already having fun.
Jin Tao and Siok Leng came soon after. These people are the "fire crackers" and they really can talk about anything under the sun. They know a lot of secrets in many people and so can create a lot of "topics" for discussion! And that day, Siok Leng looked slightly different from what we normally see.. Slightly more funky I would say =P
Then, Jolene, Yan Fen, and Kailim came. And really, Kailim looked so different... Don't know is because we didn't see her for a very long time or is it that she changed a lot in her appearance. Still, a change for the better I would comment =P
Li Jian and Hsien Xiong came too~ With his drum and roller blade. Though we never see Hsien Xiong for a long time, his apperance looked like before.
Good food, good accompaniment. Cant ask for more =) But still, we missed out on 2 important people: Peifang and Adi. Really sorry. Next outing I wont forget to ask you guys out~
8月11日 Busy to busier ?
2)CORS: Module management.
3) Research program. 。。
4)Friends outing.
Happy 23rd BirthdayBirthdays are meaningful because people care about you -KR
My new tuition student "Sri"The simplest way to solve a problem is to say you give up but the truth is that you shouldn't. -KR
Yesterday was my first session with Sri, introduced by Aquliah, whom I must thank her personally when I do happen to see her =P The moment I arrived at his home, I was actually quite shocked... Because the host actually brought me to an air-conditioned room for me to teach Sri! (This is really my first time teaching a student in an air-conditioned room!!!)
The atmosphere was actually a bit serious because her sister was saying that Sri requires physics tuition because his last test was just 20+ marks. When I did actually look at his mid-term exam paper, I knew I had to help him, or else he will really struggle in the future... I gave his sister an acknowledgement nod, saying that I will try my very best to help him.
According to his sister, Sri is a very quiet and shy person. I knew I had to create a very light atmosphere for him to absorb what I taught during the tuition session and eventually, I managed to get his attention after telling jokes after jokes. (Guess I am getting good in this... Haha... In born talent to make people laugh? I really don't know =P)
Although the session was only 2 hours, I am sure Sri did learn a lot from my tuition. I am very confident of that because I can see him trying very hard to understand what I teach him. I knew I had to make the lesson fun so that he can learn faster and I believe I can do it for the next few sessions.
If he can actually keep this spirit up, I am very sure he will get 80% at least for his final year. No doubts about that! China exchange students rocks~Was halfway through my list of cute china students =P Now I shall carry on...
- Weiwei - (No nick) Always waiting for him to smile. Likes to be with Sun Feng. Don't know why, his puzzled face always make me laugh, especially when he is engaging in a game with us. Can see that he was becoming a bit restless at the last part of the lectures since he was skipping them...
- Xiao Min - (Jessie?) Know her a bit more through her blog and through chatting with her... From what I think, I think she is very quiet but always interested to find out more about things when she has the intention to know. Very friendly person, and is the 1st person who initiated the letter sending to her parents~
- Deng Fan - (小弟弟) He really looks pretty handsome because he looks so young! Though not from Zhejiang University, he is able to blend in very well with the people surrounding him. Can see that he is very talented, since he understands games very quickly and can play basketball very well, despite his small size =P Can still remember the day he gave the presentation... He looked so stressed! Haha
- Zhang Ying - (No nick) The way she speaks is so very unique!! She speaks very slowly but really leaves a deep impression in my mind. Though she didn't know most of the people here, she makes a very conscious effort to communicate with people. All the best for your research! I am sure you can make it big one day!
- Chai Lu - (No nick) Very tall~ Even taller than me -.-" Likes to be with Jin Huiliang and is very willing to learn about the business environment in Singapore. Always want to explore something because he himself believes that he can learn more through exploration. Always looking for challenges and wants to try them out quickly. Keep up this good spirit!
- Li Li - (Lily) Though she seldom comes to the tv room and play with us, she is actually quite friendly in nature~ She still felt a bit guilty for not putting much effort in entertaining us when we were in Hangzhou. Tell you what... We enjoyed our Hangzhou trip! So no worries =) Also got to know her a lot more through msn talking. All the best for your school enrichment class. I know you put in a lot of effort too~
- Hongliang - (No nick) Very cute person! Always have a lot of stuff to talk about! From China politics, China schools, comparison of schools etc etc... He always seem so lively and willing to share anything he knows. All the best for his future~
Modules for this coming semesterNo module is difficult to score, so just go with your interest -Kuan Rong
The phrase is very true. Every semester, there will be people asking whether a particular module is easy to score and everytime my answer will be:" Because I like maths, modules like GEM2900, Living with mathematics etc. are easy to score...)"
After much thinking, I have decided to take the following modules:
LSM 3211 - Fundamental Pharmacology
LSM 3223 - Immunology
LSM 3251 - Ecology
DSC 2006 - Operations Management
GEK 1542 - Forensic Sciences
Though timetable a bit packed and I have to go to school for 5 days a week, the examination dates are spreaded out rather evenly... which is how I usually plan my timetable also =P |
